“Mother’s Day with Myrtle Fillmore”

This Mother’s Day, we honor those who loved and cared for us, either by birth or by choice. We also honor all pet moms. The special bond we have with our pets is simply heartfelt.
Some of us have or had moms of the heart or moms by blood. Today we honor them all. The table is set with roses and we remember our mothers with pictures. We also honor the mother of Unity, Myrtle Fillmore. Let’s imagine, Myrtle speaking here now, to all of us today, (and I will do my best inner Myrtle) in our sacred space, sharing her words of wisdom with us. So, sink into your comfy space and spend time with our Unity mother, Myrtle Fillmore. Let’s lean into our soft spots as she unfolds more of our truths from “How to Let God Help You”
I’d like to share two points of light:
“God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24
“Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” — John 8:32
There are moments in every spiritual journey when we become weary of struggling. We become tired of trying to fix life by ourselves. We have prayed prayers of desperation, attempted to control outcomes, and exhausted our personal strength. Then quietly, sometimes through disappointment and sometimes through awakening, a deeper question rises within us:
What if God has already provided the help I seek?
Dear ones, I invite you into a higher understanding of God, ourselves, and the laws of spiritual living.
I am not merely offering positive thinking or religious comfort. I want to teach you a way of life rooted in spiritual law. I believe that Truth is not vague, emotional, or accidental. Truth is dependable. It can be practiced. It can be demonstrated. It can heal bodies, restore peace, and transform consciousness.
I call this spiritual science.
That phrase may sound unusual at first. Many people think science belongs to laboratories while spirituality belongs to churches.
Yet, I know that Jesus himself taught spiritual principles that produced dependable results when faithfully practiced.
Just as planting seeds in fertile soil produces a harvest, thoughts planted in divine understanding produce corresponding experiences in life.
This is not magic.
It is not wishful thinking.
It is alignment with divine law.
As students of practical Christianity, we know the purpose of spiritual study is to gain a broader conception of God. That is where transformation always begins. If our image of God is small, fearful, distant, or judgmental, then our lives will reflect fear and limitation.
But Jesus revealed a different understanding of God.
Jesus spoke of God as Spirit, Life, Love, Wisdom, and ever-present Good. He revealed God not as a distant ruler withholding blessings, but as an indwelling Presence.
The Apostle Paul declared:
“In him we live, and move, and have our being.”
That means God is not absent from our struggle. God is the very Life within us seeking expression.
God is Principle. Not a cold or lifeless principle like mathematics. God is the living Principle of Love and Intelligence.
This changes everything.
When we understand God as living Spirit, we stop begging and start awakening.
Too often we may pray as though we are trying to persuade God to help us. We may plead with heaven while unconsciously believing that sickness, fear, poverty, or sorrow have equal power with God.
Spiritual science teaches that there is only one true Power. One true Presence.
God is the source of all life, all intelligence, all love, and all substance.
The appearance of separation from God is not ultimate reality.
Dear ones, disharmony comes from believing in something separate from God. Fear may whisper, “You are alone.” Lack says, “There is not enough.” Sickness says, “You are broken.” Shame says, “You are unworthy.”
But spiritual Truth declares something entirely different:
You are a spiritual being. You live in God. The life of God flows through you. The wisdom of God guides you. The love of God sustains you.
That is how Jesus healed people.
He was not changing God’s mind.
He was changing human consciousness.
He awakened people to the Truth already present within them.
I speak of Truth as “a Saving Science.” This is a powerful phrase because many people think salvation is only about the afterlife.
But Jesus spoke of salvation as something alive and active now.
To use our Truth as a “Saving science” we awaken our consciousness to it full spiritual potential. We release error thought and affirm truth. We remove the false beliefs we may find we attached to us, and we discover our true unity with divine life.
Jesus did not simply preach doctrine. He demonstrated Truth. He healed blindness, restored the brokenhearted, forgave sin, and overcame death itself.
I insist that if we truly understand the teachings of Jesus, we must also seek to demonstrate them.
The proof of spiritual understanding is transformation.
That transformation begins in consciousness.
We cannot continuously think thoughts of defeat and expect victory.
We cannot dwell in resentment and expect peace.
We cannot rehearse fear day after day and expect freedom.
Thought matters.
Words matter.
Faith matters.
The mind is creative because it is made in the image of divine Mind.
This is why Jesus said:
“According to your faith be it unto you.”
Faith is not blind belief. Faith is spiritual perception. Faith is the ability to see beyond appearances into divine possibilities.
I understand this deeply because I practice this in my own life. When I faced serious illness, I began affirming life instead of accepting limitations. I spoke words of Truth to my body. I prayed with expectancy. I cooperated with divine life instead of surrendering to despair.
And healing followed.
This message, in truth is, divine life within us is greater than appearances.
This is what makes Truth a “saving science.”
It saves us from hopelessness.
It saves us from bondage to appearances.
It saves us from believing error thoughts have ultimate authority.
The Christ within us is always seeking to lift us into freedom.
Now let’s consider the “fundamental propositions” taught by Jesus.
A proposition is a foundational truth upon which everything else is built.
And the first proposition is this:
God is Spirit.
Spirit is the source of all reality. Omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient.
Since God is Spirit, then the deepest truth about us must also be spiritual.
We are more than personalities. We are more than appearances. We are more than our fears or histories.
At the center of our being is the divine image.
Genesis tells us:
“God created humans in his own image.”
That image cannot be destroyed by circumstance.
It may be hidden beneath fear, woundedness, or ignorance, but it remains intact.
As I wrote on page 40, “Put off, then, the lying tongue. Take up the words of Spirit, and life. Put off the habit of thinking lying thoughts; think of life, truth, and love as the only reality. …God within has the voice to which we may listen.”
The Apostle Paul described this process when he said:
“Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Transformation begins with renewed consciousness.
Not merely behavior. Consciousness.
The outer life reflects the inner life.
So how do we actually let God help us?
I would say we begin by cooperating with Truth.
We stop fighting ourselves.
We stop rehearsing limitation.
We stop magnifying appearances.
Instead, we begin aligning our thoughts with divine reality.
When fear comes, we affirm divine peace.
When lack appears, we affirm divine abundance.
When sickness speaks, we affirm the life of God moving through every cell.
When confusion arises, we become still and listen for divine wisdom.
This does not mean denying human challenges.
It means refusing to give them ultimate authority.
Jesus never ignored suffering, but He also never accepted suffering as the final truth.
He always looked deeper.
He looked into the spiritual reality beneath appearances.
And that same Christ consciousness is available to us.
The world needs those of us who know how to live from our spiritual center.
People who carry peace into chaos.
People who speak words of life instead of fear.
People who understand that divine love is stronger than hatred.
People who know that healing is possible.
People who refuse to surrender to despair.
Beloveds, the message is ultimately simple:
God is present. God is good. God is life. God is love. And the Spirit of God is active within you now.
The Christ within you is continually calling you higher.
The spiritual path is not about escaping life.
It is about awakening to the divine reality already present within life.
I want to remind you that Truth is practical. It belongs not only in sanctuaries but in homes, workplaces, relationships, finances, and bodies.
Truth belongs in everyday living.
So today, let us choose a higher vision.
Let us become students of spiritual science.
Let us practice the saving Truth taught by Jesus.
Let us build our lives upon the fundamental proposition that God is Spirit and that Spirit is the source of all real life.
And it has always been within.
~Amen
